Despite the increasingly wet and wintery weather, one of Islington’s first boules teams has launched in Cally Park.
Every Friday morning, the new team from the Drovers Centre, in North Road, Holloway, will be turning out regardless of rain and chilly winds and all older people are welcome at the free sessions in the park.
Tina Baker, who organises the boules team, said: “In winter, it’s important to get out in every bit of daylight we have.
“It boosts your mood and helps you get vitamin D3 to help build healthy bones. You can then warm up with a cup of tea and a natter back at the centre.”
Boules, also known as petanque, is a French game in which players throw or roll heavy balls as close as possible to a jack.
