The heroes who died during the First World War will be honoured in a series of Remembrance Day events set to take place across the borough.
In total 9,000 people connected with the borough were killed during the Great War, and as part of the Remembrance Day celebrations, Islington Council will launch an interactive, online map showing where they lived in the borough.
This is the next stage of a project launched in August to mark 100 years since the outbreak of hostilities - a plaque naming all those who died was attached the street signs where they lived.
On Thursday the Mayor of Islington Cllr Theresa Debono and Lesley Seary, chief executive of Islington Council, will join veterans and other dignitaries laying wreaths at the Islington and St Pancras Cemetery, in East Finchley.
A minute’s silence will be observed and a wreath laid at four memorials in the graveyard.
For the first time a bugler will accompany the party and the Islington Council Choir will sing war time songs, including We’ll Meet Again and Keep The home Fires Burning.
A short walk will take place around the cemetery to show the burial places of several soldiers – another new map will be provided to help visitors, researchers and relatives locate the graves of individuals.
Cllr Theresa Debono, Mayor of Islington, said, “One hundred years ago, this country was at war. A war that saw whole communities affected, as we can see so clearly from Islington’s WW1 street plaques.
“Many of the victims were volunteers, who fought to save the freedoms we take for granted.
“It is my honour to represent Islington at these remembrance ceremonies and I would urge people to join us at these commemorative events.”
On Remembrance Sunday, November 9, at 10am a parade led by an Air Cadet’s band, the Honourable Artillery Company and Islington Veterans’ Association will march from Highbury Corner down Upper Street.
The procession will continue on to Islington Green for an inter-faith service at 10.40am and the traditional two minutes’ silence at 11am followed by the laying of wreaths.
Hundreds are expected to attend.
The mayoral party will then proceed to Spa Green War Memorial, off Rosebery Avenue, Finsbury, and Manor Gardens War Memorial, on Manor Gardens, Upper Hollway, for smaller services.
Two further events will take place on November 11, the anniversary of the day the armistice was signed; police will stop traffic and a two minutes silence will take place on the steps of Islington Town Hall, in Upper Street, Islington.
Then in the evening a First World War memorial service will take place at the Church of St Mellitus, in Tollington Park, Stroud Green, for those who died from the former congregational church and are remembered on two memorials.
