Hundreds of people stepped out into the sunshine to enjoy an annual summer event which raised almost £4,000 for charity.
The summer fete in Arlington Square, Islington, organised by the Arlington Association on Saturday, featured various stalls, a human fruit machine and live music for visitors to enjoy.
Special guests included author and resident, Emer Stamp, who told tales from her Unbelievable Top Secret Diary of a Pig, and TV presenter Dallas Campbell who was called on to judge the children’s fancy dress competition.
The square was recently visited by His Royal Highness Prince Edward in recognition at the association’s good work.
Gordon McArthur, chair of the Arlington Association, said: “The Arlington Square Summer Fete is a hugely popular event where the community comes together in a village atmosphere to raise funds for good causes and have fun.
“Arlington Square was once a no go area blighted by anti-social behaviour but through our community gardening it has become a green oasis at the heart of our neighbourhood.
“The success of the fete demonstrates what a community can achieve.”
Organisations that will benefit from the Arlington Association’s fundraising are St John’s youth club, Islington Proms, the Hackney night shelter and Hanover School’s towpath gardens).
