Islington Survivors Network has received donations totalling £320 since the Gazette’s front page appeal, but it desperately needs more.
The volunteer group, headed up by Dr Liz Davies, links together survivors of abuse at the hands of council-run kids’ homes in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, and helps with advocacy and travel.
“So far, 80 abuse survivors have come forward,” Dr Davies told the Gazette. “We are now getting about six a week. Each one has to be contacted and spoken to.”
ISN is also providing evidence to an independent inquiry into Sandy Marks’ alleged pro-paedophile past, thanks to a Gazette investigation in May. Ms Marks is a former mayor and chaired the social services committee between 1991 and 1995, more than a decade after documents show she was involved with pro-paedophile lobby group Fallen Angels. She has called the allegations “untrue and unfounded”.
