MP Emily Thornberry was one of those present on Saturday to help the Islington Veterans Association commemorate Armed Forces Week.
The week began on Monday at Islington Town Hall with the annual flag raising, with the Mayor in attendance, before concluding on Saturday with a parade and picnic at Islington Green.
“It’s about remembering the service men who have died for their country, in D-Day or at the Somme, but also those still serving,” said Dennis Sharrocks, chairman of the Islington Veterans Association
“I think that’s what’s often forgotten on days like these is that there are soldiers still serving, willing to serve away from family and friends. And it’s important that we acknowledge that.”
