Islington’s first ever housing and health summit took place in Holloway this month,

Senior political and health care figures got together on the Andover Estate, off Seven Sisters Road, to discuss how to shape housing services in the borough and look into how Islington Council, the NHS and social landlords can work together to tackle health inequality.

Cllr Janet Burgess, the council’s executive member for health and wellbeing, said: “We know that residents’ housing has a huge impact on their health and wellbeing.

“As the borough’s biggest social landlord and with responsibility for public health we are uniquely positioned to be able to influence both.

“With the new Health and Social Care Bill, an ageing population, government cuts and more community-based services emerging, it’s important that the council and its partners find new ways to work together.

“So Islington’s housing and health summit – the first of its kind held on an Islington estate – was about developing integration between housing, health and social care, to reduce the striking health inequality experienced between rich and poor.”
