A police officer fell 60ft from a roof – and survived.

Pc Nicholas Horwood, 28, was called to investigate a break-in at the five-storey business premises in Britton Street, Finsbury. He went to the roof, but fell when he stepped back.

“The next thing I remember is waking up in casualty,” he told the Gazette from his hospital bed. He didn’t even break a bone.

Meanwhile, hundreds of pensioners took part in an “undignified” scramble for free butter and cheese.

Queues outside a Holloway community centre stretched 250 yards, with people claiming the pensioners were fighting and arguing over who got their first. It was part of the government’s “free food for the elderly” scheme.
