Three large developments were given the go ahead for Holloway and Finsbury Park on Monday.
On the corner of Holloway Road and Eden Grove, permission for a six to 10 storey student halls with a whopping 862 rooms and a restaurant on the ground floor was granted.
The decision on the building had been deferred while a Design Review Panel overlooked the plans – despite complaints about the size of the block, too many students in the area and fears about antisocial behaviour an Islington Council Planning Committee gave the green light.
Meanwhile round the corner in Isledon Road, the dilapidated Maryland Hotel is set to be bulldozed and replaced by six storey, 104 bedroom hotel complete with a bar at street level.
And finally, in Fonthill Road, Finsbury Park, plans for a 92 room hotel, complete with shops and restaurants, which were first passed in 2010, were given more time to come to fruition.
