Ten complaints about Islington Council to the ombudsman were upheld in the last year, a report reveals.
A total of 33 people took their grievances to the watchdog, five of which were thrown out, with the other 18 ended after initial enquiries.
Only one of the upheld complaints resulted in a report of maladministration. A woman said the council had refused to help her with housing after she was made homeless because her mother was evicted from temporary accommodation.
Another upheld complaint found the town hall was at fault for allowing someone’s possessions to be destroyed, which led to the council forking out £1,200 for a replacement wardrobe.
One tenant who complained about the council’s handling of damp in their home was also successful. The ombudsman found the council and its contractor had cancelled a repair they was obliged to carry out. That cost the town hall £1,558 for the delays, £175 for the time and trouble and £300 for decorations.
