“Carelessly discarded smoking materials” caused a flat fire in the shadow of Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

About 150 people were evacuated from the tower block in Queensland Road, Holloway, on Wednesday night.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters were called to deal with the fire just before 7.45pm. It took them 90 minutes to bring it under control.

A section of wall about four metres square in size was damaged in the second floor blaze.

Firefighters from Holloway fire station were on the scene the following day to offer fire safety advice and home visits.
