Two hundred people were evacuated from a block of flats in the early hours of Sunday – but firefighters assured it was nothing to worry about in the wake of Grenfell Tower.
There was a small blaze in a second floor flat in Hind House, Hornsey Road, Holloway, at about 1.30am.
Eight fire engines were called, and crews also helped five people escape using ladders.
Firefighter John Ryan, who was at the scene, said: “Although it was a small fire, it was creating quite a bit of smoke and residents were understandably concerned.
“I want to reassure local residents that this was a small fire which we easily contained.
“Obviously, the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower is in everyone’s minds at the moment but there are simple steps we can all do to help keep us safe.
“Firstly, ensure your home has plenty of smoke alarms. Call 999 straight away and make sure you alert everyone. Close any doors as you make your way out. This will help slow the spread of fire.”
