Hundreds of people joined Ben Kinsella’s family for a sponsored 10k walk along the Regent’s Canal on Saturday – with £2,800 so far raised for the anti-knife crime trust set up in his name.
The walk, from Colebrooke Row in Islington to Victoria Park and back, marked the 10-year anniversary of 16-year-old Ben’s murder in North Road in the Cally.
The Ben Kinsella Trust aims to educate young people about the horrors of knife crime. And, sadly, a reminder of its battle came a day after the event when a 14-year-old boy was stabbed in Fairbridge Road, Upper Holloway. Two boys, aged 14 and 15, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Last week, the Gazette ran a special edition to mark the anniversary. While his sister, Brooke, said her family won’t give up the fight, she added: “We, and many other families, have tried our hardest to make a difference and I really hoped that 10 years on, I could say we’ve helped. I actually think we are in a worse position right now.”
