Show off your apples at Gillespie Park’s annual apple festival on October 15.
The fourth Apple Day, organised by the Friends of Gillespie Park, runs from noon until 4pm and celebrates all things pomaceous (which means apple-like).
“We will have an apple juicer, apple tasting and a display of heritage apples from Brogdale National Fruit Collection,” said Pat Tuson of the Friends group. “If you have any spare apples please bring them along for juicing or just to show us how lovely they are. Don’t forget a container to take your juice home in.”
Apple Day replaced a larger-scale festival in Gillespie Park, a few years ago, but its origins date back three decades to 1990, when an event celebrating sustainability and British fruit was held in Covent Garden.
There will be apple-related food on sale and local violinists the Gillespie Band will help provide entertainment.
It takes place by Islington Ecology Centre. The park is off Drayton Park, in the shadow of the Emirates Stadium.
