You know school dinners have improved when kids are choosing to eat them in the summer holidays.
Islington Play Association, the charity that runs half of the borough’s children’s centres, offered free healthy meals twice a week throughout the school break.
The service, funded by the mayor’s London’s Kitchen Social programme, is part of a national push to get children eating healthier school meals spearheaded by MP Frank Field.
And on Wednesday Mr Field dropped by Paradise Park to chat with youngsters and sample the dishes.
Islington Play Association CEO Anita Grant said: “We were very happy to have so many children come to play and eat with us despite the rainy weather.
“We know how important it is that children eat healthily. The project to provide free lunches for families this summer has been really successful and we will be continuing to serve healthy food to the community for free in holidays.”
