Camden resident Jamie Willcocks has created the London-centric card game and is looking for backing through Kickstarter
A first date in London should always involve… Jeremy Corbyn; or Stormzy’s latest mixtape; or dangerous levels of air pollution.
Just a few of the suggestions from new card game Tired of London.
Based on Samuel Johnson’s quote “when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life” (who clearly never had to pay £750 in lettings agency fees or be held at a red signal on the Bakerloo line in a heat wave), the game is in the last throes of a Kickstarter campaign, which ends on June 30.
Created by Jamie Willcocks and his company Lucky Eggs Productions, the game is like Cards Against Humanity, but is independently made and entirely London-centric.
“I saw that other people around the world have successfully released local party games that make fun of where they live,” says Willcocks, who lives in Camden and works in Angel. “And I thought that there can’t be anywhere where people have such a love/hate relationship with their city as London.”
It’s not quite as politically incorrect as Cards Against Humanity, but the 250 odd cards will contain a few rude ones, making it suitable for over-16s.
It all depends if the campaign reaches their goal of £5,000 – currently, they are off by around £450.
Backers can pledge anything from £4, which will include a print-at-home version of the game, to £50 or more, in which you’ll be able to include custom-made cards that you choose yourself.
“Board games are really big here at the moment, and Londoners love a bit of dark humour, so I think this city deserves its own game,” Willcocks adds.
