Plans to remove the one-way road system around King’s Cross station are a step closer.
Transport for London (TfL) today announced that 70 per cent of surveys backed removal of the gyratory in a consultation. It received a total 1,042 responses.
The authority, in conjunction with Islington and Camden Councils, wants to simplify the often-congested road network and improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists. Measures include:
•Introducing two-way traffic on many of the streets that currently operate as one-way
•Reducing vehicular traffic on some – mainly residential – streets to improve the environment
•Providing new and improved pedestrian crossings at key junctions
•Improving the cycle network through provision of new cycle facilities. These could include contra-flow cycle lanes on remaining one-way roads as well as new cycle crossings at key junctions
The purpose of the consultation, which launched in Febraury, was to inform design plans for the new system. A further, more detailed consultation for King’s Cross is now set to take place in 2017.
