They may be from metropolitan London, but three explorer scouts from Islington had no problem navigating the Chiltern Hills in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire as they stormed to hiking challenge victory.
Three members of the 201st Islington Scout Group completed their 30km route in six hours and 28 minutes, beating off competition from 41 other units from across the country in the Southern 50 Challenge Hike.
The team - Willow Newman, 14, Jed Newman, 16, and Jasmine Liddell, 15 - faced a test of its orienteering skills with eight map reference checkpoints to follow in exact order.
They had no prior knowledge of the route before setting off, and Willow said: “This was the first time that I did the hike. I can’t believe that we won against 41 other teams of scouts from around the UK.
“It was an amazing weekend. I met loads of new friends and had a great adventure.”
