The Jamaican flag was flying over Islington Town Hall on Monday, a day after Usain Bolt’s gold medal performance in the 100m.
The council raised the flag to celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence.
Cllr Catherine West, leader of Islington Council, said: “We’re delighted to fly the Jamaican flag over Islington Town Hall.”
Islington Mayor Jilani Chowdhury invited leading members of the borough’s Jamaican community to the Town Hall to help mark the occasion.
These included the founding member of the Metropolitan Police’s Black Police Association, Supt Leroy Logan, who was born and raised in Islington.
