Olympic fever swept through a school as children with learning disabilities tried out a new sport as part of their fundraising efforts.
Finsbury-based charity Keen took over Acland Burghley in Burghley Road, Tufnell Park, earlier this month as part of the Gold Challenge – an initiative aimed at encouraging disabled youngsters to play sport and raise cash for good causes.
Children got to try a Paralympic sport called boccia, which is similar to boules, and the event sent the charity racing towards its target fundraising figure of 5,000.
Keen London trustee Jill Robinson was full of praise for those involved. “It has really been a great effort,” she said. “They really got into it and really enjoyed it.”
The charity gives disabled children the chance to participate in sports and activities which they would often be excluded from in mainstream education including games, music and art activities.
