The loudest streets in Islington causing the most noise complaints have been revealed, after an investigation by the Gazette.

Hornsey Road, which connects Holloway to Hornsey Rise and Caledonian Road, that runs from King’s Cross to Holloway have been named as the worst in the borough.

In the 12 months to April the council’s night noise patrol received 144 complaints about Caledonian Road and 120 about Hornsey Road.

Rowdy

The most common were about loud music, noisy neighbours, car and house alarms, machinery and construction work.

However, the council recently conducted a survey asking what people think of noise in the borough, which identified Upper Street – that links Islington Green and Highbury Corner – as the worst culprit.

More than half of people polled thought their neighbourhood was noisy and 60 per cent said Islington was loud in general.

But Andrew Bosi, chairman of the Islington Society, said: “I don’t think it’s too bad considering we are an inner city borough. The worst thing by far is the sirens – they used to be okay, but now they are multi-tone like the American ones. ”

Highbury Fields was named as the most pleasantly quiet place in Islington, followed by Regent’s Canal.

In 2009, the council teamed up with HfI to create a combined noise patrol which prowls the streets at night investigating complaints. In the 12 months up to the end of August, the patrol received 5,628 calls.

Cllr Paul Smith, Islington Council’s executive member for environment, said: “We will take action over antisocial noise.

“Whether it’s loud music, late-night parties or building work, noise can blight lives and cause stress and our noise officers are here to help.”
