Bubbly, sunshine-psychedelia helps banish the cold and summon the summer to Kentish Town’s Bull & Gate.
You’d never guess it was the bitter depths of a grey January outside as Treefight For Sunlight, Bella Union’s latest signing, delivered one golden nugget of psych-pop after another to a clearly grateful crowd.
They could easily have warmed their palms to this band’s harmony-laden, summer-y leftfield pop last night.
Their short set glowed with lightly layered vocal harmonies and looping, driving melodies, electric guitar whipped up with piano and carefree, upbeat vibes.
New single Facing The Sun is a perfect example of their grinning, psych-tinged pop, while dashes of labelmates Fleet Foxes, Beach Boys and the Webb Brothers were evident elsewhere.
The Danish quartet even delivered a cover of Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights, satisfyingly dreamy if hardly making it their own.
When their album drops in a fortnight be prepared for a rush of charming, sun-dappled songs and epic, swooning pop – a perfect antidote to our great British winter.
