PASSIONATE fans from Wales have taken over a corner of King’s Cross – and hoisted a Welsh rugby shirt on a flagpole.
The London Welsh Centre in Gray’s Inn Road is flying the team jersey outside its building throughout the Six Nations rugby tournament.
And it proved a lucky charm on Saturday as Wales travelled to Scotland and triumphed 24-6 at Murrayfield.
James Thomas, from The London Welsh Centre, said: “We just wanted to show our support so we swapped the traditional flag with a rugby shirt. The Welsh shirt may be a red rag to most rugby fans here in London, but we welcome all supporters at the centre – including English ones.
“The shirt went up before the England game which we lost unfortunately. But it certainly brought good luck on Saturday, so we’ll keep flying it for the rest of the tournament.”
Dozens of fans celebrated the victory over their Scottish rivals at the centre.
“Everybody was in good spirits and delighted with the result,” said Mr Thomas. “There were a few brave Scots who turned up but they went away disappointed. We always welcome fans from other countries. It makes for a great atmosphere with good rugby banter.”
