DRIVERS are to be given greater freedom over where they can leave their cars after Islington Council agreed a shake-up of parking rules.
Motorists with Islington parking permits will be allowed to use any residents’ spaces in the borough between 10am and 2pm from January 1 next year.
Councillor Paul Smith, Islington Council’s executive member for environment, said: “We want to make parking as easy as possible.
“These common sense changes will make it easier for people to park across Islington, for example to go to the doctor or visit local shops.”
Drivers are limited to set zones near their homes at the moment. Other changes set to be rolled out include a move to electronic permits and vouchers based on number plates, replacing physical ones, a removal of the current cap on visitor vouchers, and a scheme for free visitor vouchers for places of worship.
