A MAN is lucky to be alive after being knocked to the ground and stamped and kicked in the head after trying to break up a mass brawl that erupted at a house party.

The innocent 50-year-old suffered a fractured cheekbone and fractured ribs after being set upon by a group who did not take kindly to his intervention.

He was trying to calm about 15 scrappers who had spilled out of a house on the Packington Estate, off Essex Road, Islington, and onto the street. Detective Sergeant Emma Bird, of Islington Police, said: "A number of people witnessed this incident and sustained injuries. They have not come forward to speak to police and I am appealing to them and anyone with information to call me in confidence."

"I am also keen to discuss possible security measures the police and council can put into place in the estate to counteract this type of violence re-occurring."

The fight took place on September 19 at about 1am.

Anyone with information should contact DS Bird on 020 7421 0185 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
