I am a writer and historian with a particular interest in townscapes. Are there any readers who recall from personal experience the Stroud Green Conservative Association when it was based at Stapleton Hall?
In the early 1960s the council had plans to demolish the old building – its core is late Tudor – and redevelop the site with high-rise flats. The Association managed to foil this and in 1986 the building was listed.
There must be some Conservative Association members who remember the building well and perhaps some of the events that took place there. – Gillian Tindall FRSL, 27 Leighton Road, NW5 2QG (020 7485 8864) rglansdown@yahoo.co.uk
