A primary school and nursery received top marks across the board after a visit from school inspectors.

The Gower School, an independent ‘Montessori’ school, was rated outstanding and excellent in every area by the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

School inspectors visited the nursery site in North Road, and primary school site in Cynthia Street, between November 15 and 17, 2022.

The report states that “children make excellent progress from their varied starting points” and that “staff demonstrate excellent levels of care, warmth and happiness”.

Inspectors added: “Strong teaching, detailed planning, excellent support, and an admirable pupil work ethic all make a positive contribution.

“Pupils spoke highly of the support and challenge they receive from teachers.”

The school was advised that it could improve by allowing children in the early years “to explore and investigate different forms of technology to support early language development.”

Principal Emma Gowers said: “To be…given the top grade, not just overall, but in every individual area inspected, is truly exceptional.

“We are a very happy community, with a clear focus on achievement in all areas, and it’s wonderful for that be recognised.”
