A busy train station was closed during rush hour after a “sewerage leak” from a pipe in the ticket hall.

Old Street station, which serves Northern line Underground trains and Great Northern trains, was closed at around 6.45pm yesterday evening (June 7).

Great Northern customers were advised to use local bus routes to complete their journeys.

A TfL spokesperson confirmed that a leaking pipe in the ticket hall area forced the station’s closure.

They added that the leak was fixed within two hours, allowing the station to reopen later that evening.

National Rail confirmed that trains were running normally through the station at around 10pm.

The leak is not believed to be related to the Old Street roundabout and station redevelopment which is scheduled to be completed by early 2024.
