There was traffic chaos in a main road today after traffic lights failed at a busy junction.

Holloway Road in Islington saw large queues throughout this afternoon (August 14), after traffic lights at the junction with Tollington Road and Camden Road failed.

The failure was first reported just after 2pm, and a detour is in operation for affected bus routes.

The crossover from Tollington Road to Camden Road was initially blocked off by cones and safety tape.

But these appeared to have been moved, meaning traffic was still attempting to flow through the junction without the assistance of traffic signals.

Pedestrian crossings have also been affected, forcing people to make their way across lanes of traffic.

Frustrated drivers could be heard beeping their horns as traffic moved slowly down the road.

Holloway Road has recently been impacted by queueing traffic while works take place to “improve” junctions closer to the station.

Bus routes 4, 29, 91, 153, 253, 254 and 259 have all been affected by the lights failure.

Transport for London has been contacted for more information.
