Police yesterday named Yahye as the victim of the stabbing near Seven Sisters Road in Holloway.

Council leader Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz said: “I’m very deeply saddened that a man has lost his life in Islington today, following a stabbing.

“The police have launched a murder investigation, and we’re working together to provide help and support to our community.”

She appealed to anyone who can help with the investigation to contact police or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or visit Crimestoppers-uk.org.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, said: “At this early stage we are establishing a timeline of events that led up to and immediately followed this murder. If you have information or dashcam footage, please do get in touch.”

Police said they would be increasing their presence on the streets after the fatal stabbing.

Superintendent Jack May-Robinson of the Met’s Central North Command, which covers Islington borough, said: “I am saddened to see another young life needlessly lost on the streets of our capital.

“Local people will notice a more visible police presence in the coming days and I urge anyone with concerns to approach officers on patrol.”

Anyone who can help is urged to contact police on 101 or Tweet them @MetCC quoting 2840/30AUG.

It is the second fatal attack and the third death in Islington this summer.

In June a 15-year-old, Leonardo Reid, and 23-year-old Klevi Shekaj died after they were stabbed in the chest in Elthorne Road, Archway.

Two men aged 26 and 27 have appeared in court charged with their murders and the attempted murder of a third man, aged 28, who was also stabbed. They also faced charges of possession of an offensive weapon.
