The co-owner of Frank’s Café, recently voted Europe’s best rooftop bar, will open a new watering hole, this one in east London ‘s Hackney.

Bambi is the newest venture by James Dye, co-owner of the Peckham rooftop institution and pub The Camberwell Arms, due to open in London Fields in October.

It will take over the former Bright site in Netil House on Westgate Street, just off Broadway Market, which has undergone a full refurbishment. When it opens, the bright space with high ceilings will boast casually stylish vibes, with wooden wall panels, high-top tables, a bar and a DJ booth.

With Bib Gourmand chef Henry Freestone (ex-Peckham Cellars) in the kitchen and Run Dem Crew founder Charlie Dark MBE curating the DJ line up, Bambi, named after James’ great-grandmother, will be a destination for good wine, music and food in equal measure.

Bambi will operate as a wine bar and restaurant in the evening, while after dinner resident DJs, will play tunes from the custom-built wall of records until 1am on weekends.

Bar snacks to go with the bar’s selection of new and old world natural, low-intervention wines, are on offer, as well as larger dishes suitable for a proper feed.

Expect dishes such as cauliflower cheese arancini; chicken parm ciabatta with vodka marinara, pickles and aioli; half or whole roast chicken with chicken fat focaccia and green sauce; and  braised butter beans with kale and goats curd.

During the day, Bambi will open for coffee and deli-style sandwiches including chicken caesar focaccia; corn beef, mustard and pickle; and stracciatella with roasted courgette.

Wines will be available by the glass or the bottle, and available for takeaway too. There’s also a short cocktail list of aperitivo for pre-dinner drinks, party starters such as the Bambi Martini  and a frozen tequila coffee cocktail for when it’s late, but you don’t want the night to end.
