A man has been stabbed to death near Finsbury Park.

Cordons are currently in place at Upper Tollington Park in Haringey today (September 19) after a man, believed to be 52, was found with knife injuries at 4am.

Despite the efforts of police and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police says officers are working to inform the man’s next of kin.

Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, lead for policing in Haringey, said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has lost his life.

"We will do everything we can to identify those responsible for this horrendous crime and bring them to justice and keep the community safe.

“As such local people can expect to see an enhanced police presence in the area. If you saw anything that you think might help our investigation, I urge you to approach those officers and tell them what you know."

Haringey Council has warned that the road is closed between Lancaster Road and Oakfield Road and to "allow extra time" if travelling in the area.

Pearce Branigan, the Conservative party candidate for the North East Lonodon GLA Constituency, reacted by saying knife crime has "become a generational blight in London", and added "it is time to bring about an end to knife crime in London."
