A historic spa has reopened two years after it was devastated by fire.

The blaze ripped through Ironmonger Row Baths in Norman Street close to Old Street station in January 2022, badly damaging its sauna and spa.

Last Friday (January 5), the new spa was officially opened to the public after extensive renovation.

The historic building has housed a public bathhouse since it was built in 1931.

The new spa will include a range of state-of-the-art treatment facilities, including a salt-infused steam room, juniper sauna, infrared relaxation benches, and plunge pool, as well as a relaxation room and treatment rooms - all at more affordable prices.

Cllr Nurullah Turan, Islington Council’s executive member for health and social care, said: “The new spa at the iconic Ironmonger Row Baths is a huge addition to Islington, offering a high end spa experience at a more affordable cost, including discounted concessionary rates.

“We are working hard to upgrade our leisure facilities across the borough, to help residents stay active and healthy.

“The fact that the spa sold out in advance of its opening day is testament to the desire for the new spa to open, as well as the affection that local people have for Ironmonger Row Baths.”
