An Islington tech entrepreneur is bidding to win the next series of The Apprentice.

AI product consultant Tanmay Hingorani is among 20 hopefuls aiming to earn £250,000 investment from Lord Alan Sugar.

The keen chess player and improv enthusiast is working on Munchcard, an AI-powered digital loyalty and marketing platform for foodies to unlock local perks at independent food and drink spots.

Ahead of the start of the new BBC series, he said that, like Lord Sugar, he began his career selling technology and their "skills would complement each other".

He added that he is "emotionally intelligent and intuitive" and able to read people and situations quickly, saying: “I’m competitive and bring enthusiasm to whatever I take on.”

On his Linked In profile, Tanmay has six years' experience building data-driven digital solutions combining expertise in AI product development to create solutions for major organisations.

The Bristol University graduate works for digital innovation firm Capgemini Invent, but has previously worked for Barclays Bank.

The Apprentice returns to iPlayer and BBC One from January 29 with candidates put through a series of tough tasks by Lord Sugar and his advisors Baroness Karren Brady and Tim Campbell.

They will whittle down the candidates across 12 episodes with challenges including creating a children's book, selling live on television, and hosting a corporate away day on the Red Sea in Egypt.

Tanmay is up against a range of other candidates from a mortgage broker who counts Kim Kardashian as the perfect role model, to a London-based barbershop owner who wants to expand to New York, Dubai and Tokyo.
