An Islington man has been fined £6,244 for giving unregulated immigration advice.
Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday that Victors Eta Washington-Don, 47, was not qualified or authorised to act as an immigration adviser – but still took money from his victim since February last year.
Washington-Don, of Stranraer Way, admitted the charge. He was sentenced to a £750 fine, £4,094 compensation, £1,280 costs and £120 victim surcharge.
Dr Ian Leigh, deputy immigration services commissioner, said: “We are here to ensure people seeking immigration advice are treated fairly by people they can trust to be fit and competent. Mr Washington-Don chose to operate outside the law.
“I hope this sends a clear message to other people considering providing immigration advice – act within the law or you will find yourself in court.”
