An acid drum fell off the back of a lorry and spilled out into the street yesterday (Thursday).
Five litres of sulphuric acid were steaming and bubbling after spilling in York Way, King’s Cross, near the junction with Goods Way.
Police and firefighters were called at about 2pm and closed off the road to establish what the chemical was and make it safe. It was nearly two hours before it was reopened.
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: “It spilled open into the road. The area was cordoned off and we had a range of specialist equipment there to establish what it was.”
