Campaigners took to Islington Green on Saturday to spread the message that refugees are welcome in the borough.
Actress Juliet Stevenson and Senegalese singer Diabel Cissokho joined campaigners from Islington and Hackney Amnesty Group for a day of food and music.
The heavy rain wasn’t enough to dampen the mood and chair of the group Louise Orton said there was really strong speeches to go with the “great” music.
She said: “Despite being one of the richest countries in the world, the UK plays host to less than one per cent of the world’s refugees. We wanted to highlight this to the people of Islington and show the positive contribution refugees make to our borough and the UK as a whole.”
A Refugees Welcome march is scheduled for central London on Saturday. Click here for full details.
