Aldi could be set to open a store in Archway later this year after the supermarket applied for an alcohol licence.
The budget chain plans to open at what is now Poundland at the top of Holloway Road and has submitted a licensing application to Islington Council to sell booze until 10pm Monday to Saturday and 5pm on Sundays.
The recently revamped Archway area has a wealth of supermarket chain stores already.
Around the corner in Junction Road is an Iceland and a Co-Op, while further down the Holloway Road is a Tesco Express and a Sainsbury’s Local.
An Aldi spokeswoman confirmed the news when asked by the Gazette.
She said: “Aldi has plans to open a store near Archway Tube station subject to receiving the required local authority consents.
“The new store would potentially open towards the end of 2018.”
The consultation period for people to have their say on the proposals ends today (Thu).
