The “devastated” family of a teenager who went missing nine years ago have made a fresh appeal for information to discover what happened to him.

Alexander Sloley, from Islington, disappeared after visiting a friend in Enfield on July 11, 2008. His family have been in “turmoil” ever since.

The accountancy student had little money, no wallet and no bag with extra clothes to indicate he was planning to run away. His family said it was unlike him to go missing – and despite repeated appeals, police have never been able to trace him.

His family issued an emotional appeal on the BBC Crimewatch Roadshow on Tuesday describing the impact his disappearance has had on them.

Det Insp Kam Sodhi, who is leading the investigation, urged anyone who knows anything about Alex’s disappearance to “do the right thing” and bring some answers to his family.

“Alex’s family have been devastated by his disappearance, and have spent years in turmoil as the search for him has continued without answers,” he said.

“In all this time, numerous officers have been involved in an active investigation, and we have worked closely with Alex’s family, but despite extensive inquiries, we have been unable to locate him.

“I am convinced that someone, somewhere, knows something about Alex’s disappearance.

“I would also like to appeal to anyone who suspects someone they know - perhaps a friend or relative - to have been involved, but may be too intimidated to come forward. I can assure you that your information will be treated in the utmost confidence.”

At the time of his disappearance Alex was described as a light skinned black man, 5ft 5ins tall, of medium build with striking blue eyes.

Anyone with information should call the Islington police missing person unit on 020 7421 0185 or Missing People on 116000.
