The Transport Secretary has said sorry for the Christmas travel chaos that saw thousands locked outside Finsbury Park Station.
The apology came as Patrick McLoughlin amswered an urgent question posed by Labour on the first Commons sitting of 2015.
He said: “It was totally unacceptable - passengers deserve a reliable rail service, they deserve clear information and they deserve rapid help when things go wrong.
“I am sorry in this case they did not get this.”
Hordes of passengers, facing travel misery when over-running engineering works closed King’s Cross, besieged the station on December 27.
Finsbury Park was forced to close for a period as it was overwhelmed with passengers with queues of hundreds snaking around the station.
Shadow transport secretary Michael Dugher was granted the urgent question by Speaker John Bercow and told the Commons the problems had caused “misery for passengers”. Jeremy Corbyn, MP for Islington North, asked the Transport Secretary for a meeting to discuss the station’s future and insisted there needed to be a serious examination of its capacity problem, “dangerously overcrowded” underground platforms and the mixed management between TfL and the mainline operator.
