The long-awaited anti-suicide measures at Archway Bridge have been delayed again.

Sadiq Khan said in December that the fencing would be installed by spring, ending a 13-year campaign.

But now it has emerged fresh plans to add extra panels to plinths and edges of the bridge to prevent people climbing over have been lodged. But the process to receive the listed building consent needed for the work could take up to eight weeks.

Campaigners at the Whitehall Park Residents’ Association were told by a project worker last month: “We are updating the design drawings to address some technical design issues and the discussions with the stakeholders (Haringey, Islington councils and TfL).

“We estimate the application process will take about eight weeks, if that is the case, we can start work on site in September.

“If, however, the listed building consent is delayed, this will consequently mean delays to the start date on site.”
