An Archway charity that helps families who have suffered the loss of a child a has been awarded almost £10,000.
The Slow Group, off Junction Road, was set up in 2007 by two bereaved mothers who wanted to help other parents get together and offer mutual support and understanding.
Since then the group has grown to include other services, such as art workshops for children who have lost a sibling.
It has now been awarded £9,944 from the Big Lottery Fund to run evening groups, in addition to daytime workshops, to better fit in around members’ lives.
Nicola Whitworth, who co-founded the group, said: “Losing a child is a relatively rare event, but when it happens it has a devastating effect on family life.
“It is natural to struggle with grief, but its impact can trigger health problems, anxiety, alcohol or drug dependency and extreme stress in all family relationships.
“We support parents as they gradually make their way back into the world into other activities, opportunities, work and family life.”
