Retailers were celebrating a spruce up of their shopfronts this week as part of a £2million revamp for Archway.

The regeneration by Islington Council – which it hopes will pave the way for the removal of the Archway Gyratory – includes the transformation of 18 old shopfronts, as well as improved disabled access.

Ian Morris, whose shop Map Gift Shop in Junction Road was one of those to benefit, said: “Seeing the first disabled customer easily enter the shop made it all worthwhile.

“Business has increased considerably and customers are feeling inspired once again by retail in Archway.”

The council’s regeneration package for Archway also includes a new public space at Archway Close and Flowers Mews, work to help bring the removal of Archway gyratory a step closer.
