Your article “Hospital set to open new emergency unit” (Gazette, February 17, 2010) about The Whittington got me wondering whether the public are being kept properly abreast of developments on urgent care in Islington.
A few weeks ago, when ringing my local Primary Care Centre, I was surprised to be greeted by an answer machine service provided by Harmoni Urgent Care.
As I understand it, Harmoni Urgent Care has a temporary contract with the out-of-hours GP service following the removal without consultation of the contract from Camidoc last summer.
At the time more than 200 doctors registered their protest to Andrew Lansley, Secretary of State for Health. Can we now be assured that no extension to that contract has been agreed without public knowledge? – Name and address supplied.
