Arsenal Wenger spoke after Arsenal lost 3-1 to Swansea City. Read on for what he said about the ‘massive mistakes’ his side made, the latest on Olivier Giroud’s future and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

Arsene Wenger slammed his side after they gave away a lead to deservedly lose to Carlos Carvalhal’s impressive Swans at a raucous Liberty Stadium on Tuesday evening. Wenger’s side went 1-0 up through a Nacho Monreal goal after a cross from Mesut Ozil just after the hour mark,

However the home side equalised a minute later through the excellent Sam Clucas who slotted past Petr Cech. On the hour mark Jordan Ayew pounced on a mistake by Cech after he mis-kicked in the box to make it 2-1 before Clucas added a second towards the end as the Gunners faded badly.

Wenger said: “We made massive mistakes. The turning point was when we conceded a goal after going 1-0 up. On decisive moments we were beaten.

“We were not convincing defensively. We were not convincing offensively.

“We lost too many duels Overall it’s easy to put down to confidence.” With speculation rising Giroud will be leaving Arsenal, either to Chelsea or even Borrusia Dortmund, on Wednesday’s deadline day, Wenger was asked about the French strikers future.

He said: “We will know more about [Giroud’s future} on Wednesday. He is a guy who gave great service to the club. He saved us many times.

“[Sad to see him go if he does go?] Yes. His behaviour has always been top class...at the moment I don’t want to talk too much.

“He is an Arsenal man but also he needs to play as well. His heart was always 100 per cent with the team.”

On Aubameyang Wenger simply said: “We will tell you tomorrow.”
