Arsene Wenger was furious after referee Anthony Taylor awarded a penalty to Chelsea as Arsenal drew 2-2 with their West London visitors during a hard-fought, entertaining match at the Emirates on Wednesday evening.

A cracking late goal from Hector Bellerin rescued a point for Arsenal after Marcos Alonso looked to have won the game for visitors Chelsea with an 85th minute finish.

The Gunners had earlier gone 1-0 up on 63 minutes through a superb left-footed strike by the impressive Jack Wilshere. However there was controversy four minutes later when Bellerin was harshly judged to have fouled Eden Hazard in the box.

Referee Taylor pointed to the spot as Hazard made a full recovery from his histrionics to slot home the spot-kick. But despite Bellerin’s superb strike on the half-volley to rescue a point Wenger was fuming after the match.

He said: “I thought it was a great football game. We showed great mental resources. We again got a farcical decision on the penalty. I don’t want to talk about it. I’m fed up.

“Referees decisions influenced the game at Swansea v Tottenham but no-one talks about it. Nothing will change.

“What I find terrible is we see a great football game, but we talk nothing about football. What are we talking about?”

The result leaves Arsenal sixth in the table five points behind Chelsea in third position and a whopping 21 points behind champions-elect Manchester City.

The long-serving Frenchman reflected on the performance adding: “It’s very frustrating. We have to look at ourselves as well.

“Our performances have been top quality but we have not had the results we could have had. We have not been gifted luck.”

The furious Frenchman also insisted he would fight the FA charge levelled at him after he confronted Mike Dean in frustration after the official gave a soft penalty against Arsenal after he harshly adjudged Calum Chambers to have handled in the box after Kieran Gibbs fired the ball at him from close range.

Wenger said: “[I will contest it] 100 per cent. I know what I said after the game,”
