Contract speculation seems to be never ending at Arsenal – and with Mesut Ozil’s improved new deal completed in January, attention now turns to Jack Wilshere.

With Wilshere the longest serving player in the squad, as an Arsenal fan I believe it’s time the tables turned, and the club show some loyalty to the Englishman.

While Arsenal have done well this year with recruitment the buzz of securing individuals has lost its momentum.

The Gunners seem to be at a standstill regarding Wilshere’s contract, with his deal ending this summer.

Assuming Wilshere goes to Russia with the England squad for the World Cup, you’d think both parties would want the paperwork completed beforehand.

Contract negotiations can feel a bit like walking on thin ice, and as for us, as fans, we wait for the news of the outcome of a potential deal.

I believe it’d be a crime to not offer him a worthy contract for his services to the club.

It’s a fact lucrative finances in our game are killing loyalty.

Yet Wilshere has adopted Tony Adams role as Mr Arsenal – and he wears it well, battling in midfield for the club as if his life’s on the line.

He wears his heart on his sleeve, and for that he would be many fans’ pick for Arsenal’s future captain, as he finds his way back to full form and fitness.

This paper has reported the club have offered Wilshere a new contract, with a ‘pay-as-you-play’ deal.

For me, this is nothing short of insulting to a player who’s showed his commitment and fight for Arsenal in a time where it would be much easier to go elsewhere.

The reported deal which would pay Wilshere a sum based upon how frequently as plays, indicates he could be punished for future injury should he sustain one.

Of course, missing out on around £80,000 for a week isn’t horrifying, but the concept of the deal oozes disrespect.

It’s not all about loyalty – Wilshere is also one of England’s finest talents, and at 26, there’s still time for him to grow and emulate the talent he radiated back when he was a teenager at the club.

Wilshere’s undergone his fair share of battles with injury and controversy, but after a long road of inconsistency, he seems to be on the right path again.

There’s no question of his desire and commitment to the club – however what is questionable is the club’s desire and commitment to him.
