Arsenal hosted FK Qaragbag at the Emirates in the Europa League on Thursday evening. Read on for Layth Yousif’s PLAYER RATINGS
Arsenal:
Emiliano Martinez; 6 – Needs to improve his decision making in knowing when to claim the ball. Work required on organising his defence.
Carl Jenkinson: 6 – Another who made incorrect decisions in the backline at times. But will mostly be forgiven because his family are Gooners.
Sokratis: 6.5 – Impressive this observer merely by dint of wearing short sleeves along with his captain on a bitterly cold evening while nine team-mates, while observing the tradition of wearing short sleeves wore arm length tops underneath
Laurent Koscielny: 7 – Great to see this true Arsenal servant back in the first team as he seeks to reclaim match fitness. Could be vital to the club over the holiday season if he stays fit bearing in mind the number of injuries they are attracting
Ainsley Maitland-Niles; 7 – As tough and unflinching on the pitch as he was off it at London Colney on Wednesday when speaking so powerfully and eloquently against racism. Can be utterly proud of his efforts this week
Mohamed Elneny: 6.5 – Quietly efficient against a poor side
Joe Willock: 6.5 – Not as effective as he would have liked but not for the want of trying
Eddie Nketiah,: 6.5 – Worked hard and showed good movement. Will be better for the experience
Mesut Ozil: 6 – Good to see the talented playmaker return but tonight of all nights was not the game for him to exhibit his flair
Bukayo Saka: 7 – This attacker has excelled at U21 level in the Checkatrade Trophy this season and fully deserved his Europa League gametime
Alex Lacazette: 7 – Scorer of the only goal with a clinical first half effort
Substitutes:
Zach Medley: 6.5 - On for Lacazette
Nacho Monreal: 6 - On for Koscielny
Charlie Gilmore: 6 – On for Ozil
