Bernd Leno has struck up a close friendship with our Uruguayan midfielder, and had hailed his fellow summer signing. Read on for the full transcript of what he had to say.

On winning the derby…

It was my first derby and the atmosphere was incredible. It was an important game for our fans and for us as well. We want to finish the season in the top four and now we’re in front of Tottenham. It was very important.

On beating one of the top six…

It’s not just an important game for a manager to win against a team from the top six, it’s important for us as a team. We lost the first two games against Chelsea and Manchester City but against Liverpool we played very well. We didn’t win that one but today we won against a good team and showed a very good performance.

On whether Tottenham’s penalty should have stood…

I don’t know. It was a very quick situation. I asked Son if it was a penalty and he said it was for sure, but I don’t know. In the end, it’s not important because we won the game.

On our second-half changes…

The manager substituted very well because Lacazette scored.

On Torreira…

Torreira is incredible. He’s a fighter and he’s so important for our game, for the whole defence. He produced another perfect game today.

On Manchester United next…

Now we are in front of Tottenham and we play against Manchester United, also a big team. We want to win there and then Saturday is an important game as well. It’s a big week for us.
