Arsenal legend Lee Dixon – who has been busy working on the forthcoming movie 89 The Film – has been speaking exclusively to the Islington Gazette newspaper.
The much-loved right-back – who was part of the legendary back four which earned a place in Gunners folklore after beating the all-conquering Liverpool side at Anfield to win the league title with the last-kick of the 1988-89 season has been talking about that game.
The eagerly-anticipated movie which will appeal to Gooner’s young and old as well as football fans in general is released on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital from November 20.
Dixon played an integral part in the never-to-be-forgotten triumph, and more than three decades on has also been central to the film as executive producer.
Good-natured Lee, speaking ahead of the film’s exclusive world premier at the Odeon Holloway, said: “I’ll be watching Fever Pitch.

“We’ve all read Fever Pitch the book and seen the film and it’s an amazing story from that point of view and Nick Horny did brilliantly – but the actual real-life telling of that story is great. I’m so happy.
“I’m so excited – not just for Arsenal fans who will go and watch it but also for football fans who will go and watch it because it transcends Arsenal.
“Do you know what I don’t care if we sell one copy because I’ve got that memory on film forever now. I’ve got a bit of history I can show my kids.
“I never will do the big sell because this game will never have to be sold.”
The film tells the incredible story of one of football’s greatest triumphs when against all odds Arsenal snatched the Championship title from Liverpool at Anfield in the last minute of the last game of the season 28 years ago.
Mixing archive and previously unseen footage with revealing interviews, insights and memories from the original squad, game officials, fans and the people who were there on the night this is the definitive account of a watershed moment in football and a must-watch for any sports fan.
Dixon added: “The beautiful thing about this game is that it’s about Arsenal but it’s also about the story.
“It’s got the best script of a sports story ever. If you had seen this written down as a Hollywood script you wouldn’t believe it. It’s got everything in it. It’s not just an Arsenal film it’s a film about sport, about the extremes of sport, the ups and downs – and how it can end in a spectacular way.
“I can’t wait.”
