Arsenal FC have postponed their Boxing Day Premier League clash with Wolves because of strike action by London Underground drivers.

The Gunners have put the game back by 24 hours, with kick off now scheduled for 3pm on December 27.

Tube drivers in the Aslef union are due to walk out on Boxing Day after attempts to stop them failed in the High Court. In addition to the strike action, no London Overground trains are due to run in the capital on December 26.

An Arsenal statement stated: “The club liaised closely with all the relevant agencies to make the decision. Paramount concern was always the duty of care towards supporters, and everyone who was planning to attend the match on Boxing Day.”

The club stressed that parking restrictions around the ground would have still applied on Boxing Day, making it impossible for all supporters to arrive by road.

“This would have caused severe disruption, or at worst, inability for supporters or matchday employees and workers to get to Emirates Stadium,” the statement read.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused supporters but we feel that the right decision has been made based on a duty of care.”

The club confirmed that all tickets purchased for the Boxing Day fixture would be valid for rescheduled game.
